Belfast Health and Social Care Trust delivers integrated health and social care to 340,000 people in Belfast and provides specialist services to all of Northern Ireland.

Queens University Belfast

GreyMatters Healthcare is a leader in the development of user-centric portal technology. Belfast Met is the largest further and higher education college in Northern Ireland and the sixth largest in the UK with enrolments totalling 37,000. The Connected Health Innovation Centre (CHIC) is focused on business led research in the area of connected health.

CHIC seeks to lead transformational research which aligns care needs with technology providers, researchers and clinical experience. This alignment builds on partnerships with the local integrated Health and Social Care Trusts, Universities, Investment organisations and Government.

Areas of Focus: CHIC targets research in areas such as e-Health, digital health, tele-health, tele-monitoring, disease management, and home based care. The research is industry directed from a collaboration of organisations seeking to address commercial opportunities evolving from global healthcare transformation. The companies include existing health care providers and those with transferable skills from other sectors such as mobile devices, analytics, advanced materials, IT and digital media.

The centre is based at the University of Ulster and builds on advanced engineering capability in sensors, tissue engineering, advanced materials alongside advanced computing expertise in the application of Smart technology in areas such as rehabilitation, enablement and self-management. Key focuses for the research are Vital Signs Sensing Development, Integrated Community Care and Point of Care Diagnostics.

See.Sense is an electronic software and systems design company, specialising in cycling applications. Our first product was brought to market in less than 12 months and has gone on to sell thousands of units into 44 countries around the world. We are listed with more than 40 independent retailers as well as Chain Reaction Cycles, the world’s largest online bike store.

See.Sense is currently developing a sensor platform for use by cyclists that pairs with a smart phone via bluetooth. This will generate crowd-sourced data that will have significant value for Smart Cities initiatives, such as pothole identification, intelligent street lighting, bike scheme monitoring, urban pollution, hyper-localised weather reports.

We collaborate with a number of partners who are the best at what they do. Collaboration enhances the capacity of our own skills and allows us to offer comprehensive services to develop solutions. It's an agile way to operate, means we can network the right skills for a particular development, and leverages the best skills in the market place to deliver a project.

For simulation work we partner with Simul8 and use the Simul8 product set. We are approved re-sellers of the Simul8 product set. Simulation is a powerful analytical technique and part of the data science toolbox. We work collaboratively on projects that combine simulations with other analytical techniques such as predictive modelling, risk stratification, and decision analysis.
